Meet Dr. Pooneh Najafi
Pooneh Najafi, DDS
I feel fortunate to have known my calling in dentistry ever since I was a teenager, mostly thanks to the inspiration and support that I received from my grandparents, especially my grandfather. His life was dedicated to helping people and all about justice, love, giving, and hard work. I always thought if I could be even a little bit like him I should be happy in life.
I practice dentistry the same way I live my life. My goals are to love people and be fair toward them, to be focused on the task at hand, to be honest and tell the truth. I also strive to have wit, knowledge, and interesting life stories to tell so that people gather around to listen, learn, laugh, and enjoy life.
Through dentistry, I get to help people with all sorts of backgrounds and diverse needs that range from pain relief to proper function to aesthetics. There is a sense of satisfaction when I go from one room to another, meeting my patients, chatting with them about life, and taking care of their dental health with treatment customized to their needs.
Education
I attended Texas Women’s University in Denton, TX, for my undergraduate degree, earning my Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. I continued on to Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, TX, where I received my Doctorate of Dental Surgery.
Through memberships in numerous professional organizations, I have the opportunity to continue my education through courses and lectures on the newest and most technologically advanced treatments. I am actively involved in the International Team of Implantology, the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI), the American College of Oral and Implantology (ACOI), the American Dental Association, the Texas Dental Association, and the Fort Worth District Dental Society.
I have considerable specialty training in the areas of implantology, cosmetics, and Invisalign®. While the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners requires dentists to attend only 12 hours of continuing education per year, I average between 60 and 80 hours per year in a broad variety of disciplines such as neuromuscular occlusion, cosmetic dentistry, implants, and implant-assisted dentures.
Office Life
I love my team. I have been working with most of them for the past ten years. They are loyal, caring, and hard workers. They understand me and the kind of practice I intend to have, and they put they heart into helping me to make this practice the best in the area.
Outside the Office
I was born in Iran but left in 1990 to pursue my dream of being a dentist. I lived in Cambridge, England and Toronto, Canada until I received my United States citizenship and moved to the United States in early 1990s. Currently, I reside in Colleyville with my husband of 21 years. We have one beautiful daughter, Ariana, and a Yorkshire terrier named Brownie. In my free time I love shopping in the many malls we have in the area, traveling to visit family and friends throughout the world, dining out at little family restaurants, and cooking my grandmother’s recipes. I’ve recently become interested in exercising and making sure my family eats food that is both delicious and healthy!
Working in the community is another one of my passions. I am very involved with the Texas Mission of Mercy, a community program sponsored by Texas dentists that provides needed dental treatment for those less fortunate.
